Workshop management

Introduction

First, activate the feature at the application level.

Access: Application config → Apps management → Manufacturing, configure → in the “Main Configurations” section, enable the “Manage workshops” option. Save and refresh the browser to apply the change.

This feature impacts the entire manufacturing management. Workshop management is visible from other menus: Bill of materials, Process, etc.

For example, when you open the Bill of materials list, you will notice new Workshop field.

This feature requires you to target manufacturing to specific workshops. This allows for splitting manufacturing and managing your manufacturing. Even though it is technically still possible to share routings, the purpose of the workshop is to split and follow different schedules with different workstations. With this feature, you can build schedules.

Access : Manufacturing → Bill of materials → Create a new bill of materials

  1. On the bill of materials file, define the routings and in which workshops the manufacturing should be carried out.

  2. Subsequently, when you create a manufacturing order, you will define on the file, in the Workshop field, which workshop you are working in, thus obtaining the data from the bill of materials and the routing associated with that workshop.

caution

Due to the nature of the feature, it may not be suitable for regular use for those who want to share bills of materials and routings.

In this case, it is better to use standard stock locations.

Configure a Workshop

Access: Manufacturing → Configuration → Workshop → +

Workshops function like stock locations; products enter and exit through stock movements.

By default, for manufacturing, you will use a virtual manufacturing stock location, with internal stock movements to bring in components used for manufacturing. Once manufacturing is complete, you will make an outgoing stock movement with the manufactured products that go into stock. This is a global manufacturing location.

For companies with multiple workshops within their factory, who want to manage and track their manufacturing by workshop, workshop management will help with this. You will be able to track the schedules of your manufacturing orders by workshop, and thus the incoming stock movements of components and outgoing stock movements of manufactured products will be done in a workshop location. This is why manufacturing orders will be linked to a workshop, and in the configurations, you need to specify a location usable for manufacturing, and it should be a workshop.

When you create a workshop, the configurations will be pre-defined by default.

caution

Note, the “Location Lines” table is read-only, it is only possible to view the products that are currently in the workshop.
